Cooperative
Phuket Provincial Cooperative Office of Phuket province is responsible for controlling, promoting and developing every type of cooperative in the province. However, there are 5 types of cooperatives in Phuket province, including agricultural cooperative, fishery cooperative, savings cooperative, service cooperative, and consumer cooperative.
The farmers in Nakhon Si Thammarat province have grouped together into cooperative groups and other types of cooperatives. During 1999, there was a total of 32 cooperatives in the province. The cooperative types with highest numbers included 16 savings cooperatives, followed by 7 agricultural cooperatives, 4 service cooperatives, 4 consumer cooperatives, and 1 fishery cooperative.
Irrigation
Although there are quite lots of rains in Phuket province, the water supply in the province is still insufficient due to the following factors :

- The amount of rain is not consistent. About 80% of the rain would be during the southwestern storm period.

- The water control and management in Phuket province is limited, with only Bang Wat Reservoir to control the water supply, under the lands of just 4.5 square kilometers.

- There is higher demand of water consumption, or about an average of 45,700 cubic meters/day in the service area. Yet, the real service capacity could be only 29,300 cubic meters/day by the responsible units, or only 64% of the demand, from Bang Wat Reservoir of 9,600 cubic meters/day (33%) and Khum Muang of 19,700 cubic meters/day (67%). In the year 2015, it is expected that the water consumption demand would be about 30.9 million cubic meters/year, with the ratio of 68% in Muang District, 17% in Kra Thu District, and 15% in Thalang District.

Water Source Development Plan

According to the water source development plan of Phuket province, the supplying more water to Bang Wat Reservoir and the development of underground water basin at Bang Thao would be able to increase the water sources in the province from 11.30 million cubic meters/year to 28.08 million cubic meters/year.
The time frame of this project is 6 years operation. During the first 3 years (1999-2001), there will be development of water pumping system to Bang Wat Reservoir as well as the development of Bang Wat Dam, which should be the most appropriate plan under immediate operations without any social or environmental problems. However, in spite of the fact that the development of Bang Wat Reservoir will increase the amount of water sources to the province, it is still inadequate or insufficient for the consumption demand. The continual development of underground water basin at Bang Thao should also be necessary, under the construction plan of 3 years (2002-2004).
