Livestock
Production
Phuket province has quite little livestock in the province, with inadequate production for the overall demand. Also, the livestock is not quite successful due to the following factors:

(1) The sources of animal feeds are quite far from the production sites.

(2) The incomes from other careers are more attractive.

(3) Labor costs and living expenses are quite high.

(4) It is hard to find appropriate land areas for livestock, as well as expensive land prices

(5) The limits by legal regulations on environmental issues are the obstacles to livestock increase. Also, the farmers have to face with high investment costs on lands and establishments.

However, there are still some small groups of farmers that maintain their livestock for supplemental incomes and living expense reduction. The livestock could be fowl livestock of about 10-35 ducks/folk hens or chickens, 10-150 pigs/each one person, 3-50 goats for religious ceremony and consumption. The big animals include 1-20 cattle and buffaloes (among small farmer groups) or 150 oxen/cows and buffaloes (for big farmer groups), as well as the dairy cows.
Phuket province maintains various kinds of livestock for sales and consumption such as cattle, buffaloes, ducks, hens/chickens, geese, and goats. The highest amounts of livestock are 524,684 hens/chickens (90.77%), followed by 25,132s pigs (4.35%), 20,222 ducks (3.49%), 3,243 goats (0.56%), 2,906 buffaloes (0.50%), 1,539 cattle, and 274 geese (0.05%).
