Location and Territory
  Phuket province is the biggest island in Thailand and the smallest province in the southern region, with a land area of 538.72 square kilometers or about 336,875 rai.When adding up all islands together, the total land area of Phuket province is about 543.034 square kilometers. It is located to the east of southern region, at Andaman seacoast of India Ocean, together with its other 39 small islands.

The widest part of Phuket Island is about 21.3 kilometers, and the longest part is about 48.7 kilometers. The province is about 867 kilometers or 688 kilometers by air. The journey would take about 12-14 hours by car, and about 1.10 hours by airplane.

Phuket province has its territory close to the following nearby provinces:

North

Close to the sea which is linked with Pang-nga province at Pak Phra straits with a width of about 490 meters. (It was originally linked by Sarasin Bridge, but is now changed to Thep Kasatri Bridge at Ban Tha Chat Chai, Thalang District, Phuket province and Ban Tha Kanun, Kok Kloi Sub-district, Tha Kua Thung District, Pang-nga province.)

South

Geographic Feature
          The geographic feature in Phuket province is long and tapering from north to south. About 70% of the total area is mountainous, in the midst of natural beauty of the mountain ranges, the sea, and the beach. The area in the West Coast is full of plain lands in the middle while the area in the east has muddy soils and muddy forests. In the west, the area has plenty of sand. Phuket province has beaches and the capes of natural beauty, which attract both Thai and foreign tourists each year.

          Phuket province has a total of 3 districts, 17 sub-districts, 107 villages, 69 municipalities, 13 sub-district administration organizations, and 1 provincial administration organization:
  • Muang Phuket District, 8 sub-districts, 44 villages, 2 municipalities, 6 sub-district administration organizations
  • Thalang District, 6 sub-districts, 45 villages, 2 municipalities, 6 sub-district administration organizations
  • Ka Thu District - 3 sub-districts, 18 villages, 2 municipalities, 1 sub-district administration organizations
