Market Structure and Trading Center
          There are 2 important community markets of Phuket province:

1. Municipality Market I (Ban San market) - on Ranong road, Muang District

2. Municipality Market II (Bang Niew market) - on Dilok Uthit 1 road, Muang District

          These 2 markets are the purchasing sites of agricultural products from nearby provinces as well as the farmers in local areas. Also, they are the selling sites of necessary consuming products to people in the province. The markets would open all day long. Besides, there are also other various fair markets in different areas such as Rawai fair market, and Sam Kong fair market in Muang District, Tha Ruea fair market, Cheung Thale fair market, Karon fair market in Thalang District, and Pa Tong fair market, Kra Thu fair market in Kra Thu District.
 
 
Product Import and Export
          The important imports and exports through Phuket Custom Checkpoint and Phuket Airport could be concluded as follows :

Imported Products

          During 1999, the important imports included tin, frozen fresh tuna fish, transformers, machinery/equipment, etc. There were a total imports of about 55,262.26 metric tons worth Baht 3,856.82 Million.
 

Exported Products

          During 1999, the important exports included condensed rubber latex, STR 20, 10 rubber bars, smoked rubber sheets (grade 3), tin, fish, fuel oil, liquid natural gas, transformer parts, etc. There were a total exports of about 204,509.48 metric tons worth Baht 8,072.51 Million.
 
 
Trade Registration
          During 1999, there were a total registration of 505 companies in Phuket province, or an increase of 183 companies (56.8%) from the year 1998, followed by 205 partnerships, or an increase of 17 partnerships (9%) from the year 1998. There were a total of 49 companies that closed down their business, or a decrease of 14 companies (33%) from the year before, and 59 partnerships, or an increase of 22 partnerships (59.6%) from the year before.
